When installing access points or other devices in locations without available mains power, such as rooftops, an efficient and simple power solution is key. This Outdoor Passive Power Over Ethernet Kit from XtendLan, which includes both a splitter and an injector, allows you to power your devices using a standard Ethernet cable. Thanks to the 5.5 × 2.1 mm power connectors, it is compatible with commonly available adapters. With a maximum power of 48 W at a voltage of up to 48 V, it is ideal for smaller installations over shorter distances. It offers easy integration and reliable operation for your APs and other devices.

Simple Power Over Ethernet

Passive PoE uses the free wires in the Ethernet cable to transmit electrical power, eliminating the need to run separate power cables. You will appreciate this technology especially over shorter distances of up to 10 meters, where the transmission remains efficient and stable. This makes the solution not only economical, but also easy to install. For longer distances, we recommend using active PoE according to the 802.11af standard.

Technical details and wiring

Correct wiring ensures that the center of the power connector is connected to the blue pair of wires (center wires), while the connector shell is connected to the brown pair of wires (edge ​​wires). This wiring complies with common passive PoE standards. The 10/100 Mbps Ethernet speed provides sufficient capacity for powered access points and devices on smaller networks.

Safety precautions

When using passive PoE, it is necessary to ensure the correct choice of power supply. Do not use power supplies with a higher nominal voltage than recommended for a specific device. This is due to the possible voltage drop on the Ethernet cable under load, which can return to full voltage when the current consumption is reduced (e.g. when the device is rebooted), which can damage the device's stabilization circuits.
